Arsenal make defensive decision as they 'close in' on William Saliba transfer

By

Arsenal are believed to be closing in on the signing of Saint Etienne defender William Saliba.

The Gunners are set to sign the 18-year-old in a £27m deal which will see them loan him back to the Ligue 1 club to continue his development next season.

But according to BBC Sport , Arsenal’s defensive dealings in the transfer market will not stop there as Unai Emery will look for a centre-back to come straight into their first team.

With a deal for Saliba set to be structured to be paid in instalments, his arrival will have minimal effect on their tight budget.

Teenage defender Saliba is considered a highly-rated young talent capable of making a first-team impact at Arsenal in the future.

Yet Emery needs immediate help to strengthen his back line after they shipped in 51 goals in the Premier League last season.

He is now set to look at further targets, whilst a deal to acquire France Under 20 international Saliba is expected to be finalised over the next few days.
