Earlier this year, Charlize Theron shocked us all when she spontaneously dyed her buttery blonde hair dark brown. The new hue quickly became one of our favorite celebrity color transformations of 2019, and now the actress is back with even more hair changes — this time, in the form of blunt faux bangs.
The 43-year-old star attended the premiere for her new film Long Shot on April 30, rocking a faux fringe created by her longtime hairstylist, Adir Abergel. “The inspiration for the look is an image I have had in my mind for years of Linda Evangelista from the 1990s,” Abergel tells Allure. “She was always bold with her looks and so is Charlize,” he adds.
He says Theron is always open to exploring different looks, which is how he knew she’d be down for this bang moment. As for her reaction? “She asked me if I was happy,” Abergel says. To style the bangs, he used a Denman vent brush and Virtue’s Dry Shampoo to make them look as sleek and smooth as possible.
When I ask for advice on how to style bangs, Abergel says to be sure you don’t make the ends look too rounded. “Straighter ends make them [look] more modern,” he tells me, adding, “you can refresh your bangs by using dry shampoo, which gives them life.” He also notes that you should never put anything too oily near your roots when styling your bangs.
The hairstylist posted a glamorous shot of Theron’s new look on Instagram, writing, “Love collaborating with this magical human. A little @virtuelabs hair mask, a little sleek ponytail, and some new faux bangs and we are ready!” People were quick to show love for the look, leaving captions like, “Oh. My. Word. She is just perfection. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼” and “What a look! 🙌”
We won’t lie: A part of us wishes Theron’s bangs were real, but hey, we’ll cherish what we can get. Congrats to Abergel on crafting one seriously cool look.
