Manchester United are targeting Stoke City’s promising teenage centre-back Nathan Collins as they look to build for the future.
Collins has only made three senior appearances for Stoke but has already shown high potential, leading United to join German club Werder Bremen in tracking the 18-year-old.
Werder have enquired about a loan deal for the Irish player, and he could follow in the footsteps of Jadon Sancho in his pursuit of first-team football at a high level.
Ex-United player Darren Fletcher allegedly tipped the club to make a move after being impressed with Collins during his spell at Stoke.
But ultimately it may be down for Collins himself to decide on his future, with Stoke also thought to be keen to tie him down on a new deal.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is clearly keen to sign young British talent in his attempt to improve on last season’s disappointing sixth place finish.
He has already completed the signing of Swansea’s highly-rated Welsh winger Daniel James in a £15m deal and is also targeting Leicester’s Harry Maguire, with an opening £70m bid for England’s centre-back hero rejected by the Foxes .
Strengthening the defence is top of Solskjaer’s priority list, and although Collins would be unlikely to break into the first-team straight away, he is certainly one who could make an impression at Old Trafford in the near future.

United will soon be jetting off on their pre-season tour to Asia, and are due to play the likes of rivals Leeds United, fellow Premier League side Tottenham and also Italian teams AC and Inter Milan, in a trip which sees them go to Australia, China and Singapore.
Their first game, against Perth Glory, will take place on 13 July, and Solskjaer will no doubt be hoping he has at least one more new addition to his squad before that match kicks off.
